The foggy winter weather here in San Francisco makes for some quality relaxation time inside. Sitting fireside with friends and loved ones, we need some music to set the mood!

This song is just so good. It’s smooth and emotional, crisp and cool. It reminds me of the winter of 2003/4, in the most emotional way. It was cold, I was living in Chicago, and Ryan Adams was pretty much on the top of my ‘play on repeat and fall in love with’ list. This is a sit by the fire, have a glass of red wine, and contemplate the seasons of life kind of song.

I think this song came out while I was pretty young, but it was such a hit and every time that I’d hear it I’d have to sing along. Such a 90s/00s classic. I can definitely picture Joe serenading his honey with this, a fire burning in the background, and snow on the ground outside!

No one does slow jams quite like the R (Brian McKnight could be a close second). One of the greatest R&B singers of all time in my book, the man can be as direct or metaphorical as he wants with his songs and still be (somewhat) tasteful. No matter the groove, lyric, or melody, no artist has a better catalogue of sit-by-the-fire-and-romance-it-up songs than the Pied Piper of R&B.

This is such a great song by the Raconteurs. It’s sweet, sensitive and realistic. This song also has some of my favorite lyrics. “I’m adding something new to the mixture, so there’s a different hue to your picture. A different ending to this fairytale. When the sunset into which we sail.” Slow jam genius!
Duncan
This is an old-school 311 jam that has a good vibe to it. #slowjam

When I think “slow jam”, I think R&B. I stopped listening to the genre a long long time ago, but here’s a recent track that I actually like.
Alex

No slow jam mixtape would be complete without some lowrider oldies!

This is a heartbreaker. Usher wants to love her, but he’s got to let her go. It hurts not just him, but me too.

Planning life in front of a fireplace with hot coco is a must thing todo! What else can you do when you couldn’t go outside because of heavy rain :)

This slow jam classic / yacht rock favorite was so smooth Warren G had to sample it for “Regulate.”

This song immediately caught my attention when I first heard it on KCRW, way back before Pumped Up Kicks ever even caught on anywhere outside of LA. Still dancing to this now, every time I hear it!

This song has the best dancing memory for me. Back in 2006 I had an (actual) alarm clock that used the radio when it went off. I’m a snoozer, so usually I hear the radio, hit snooze a few times and ultimately get up at the time I need. The first time I heard this song was through my radio alarm, one dart winder morning. There was something so wonderfully happy and uplifting about it that I literally shot out of bed and started dancing around my bedroom to it. After it was over I was like oh man, hahaha. A few weeks later I told my roommate at the time about it and I’ve never lived it down. Whenever it would come on the radio she’d imitate me jumping out of bed, dancing around the house. I still get warm in the heart thinking about it every time I hear the song.

First it starts with tapping my foot, then I move on to the awkward head bob…but in the end, I can’t help but to dance along to this song. While I was studying abroad, I got to see Tiesto play a set at this huge club in Ibiza. It was the best night! My friends and I danced until sunrise, then spent the next day recovering on the beach. Ahh take me back!

This song makes me wanna move, lip synching with my teddy bear as a mic.
Jamie

This gets me onto the floor every time. So much groove and a vicious chorus. You want to dance and sing the whole time.
Duncan

This past weekend I tied the knot! My wife and I danced to Nat King Cole’s “Orange Colored Sky”, and while it’s not the most club-thumping of tunes, it’s a fantastic song, and will now always make me get up and dance.
Alex
Choosing this week’s mixtape post was again an immense challenge for me - so many songs that fit the bill. I’m going with Father MC’s ” Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”—any song that samples Chic’s “Good Times” is an automatic booty shaker, and having Jodeci sing the hook doesn’t hurt either.
Myke
I’ve been jamming to this new People Get Ready album for a week or two now. Every time I hear this track, I just gotta bounce around. Get out and Dance!

This song ALWAYS makes me groove no matter where I am. One time when I went grocery shopping with my mom this song came on the P.A. and I started dancing through the isles. She scolded me in Chinese to stop moving, but I kept on embarrassing her. This song is a classic. Side note: this picture was taken at Vessel night club in San Francisco. Who can resist cupcakes and champagne while dancing the night away!?
